Threats and Opportunities

Mid-August, 1999, Amdahl pre-announces ‘Dino,’ a
mainframe version of Linux. Linas Vepstas was both upset
and concerned. He wondered where he and the rest of the
Open Source community would fit in. The project
apparently faded into oblivion.

19 August, 1999, Hercules (S/390 emulator for x86
platform) is mentioned on Linux-390 mailing list as a
potential aid to development and testing.
