Is it ‘real’ or ‘pure’ Linux?
IBM provided the architecture-specific patches to the vanilla
Linux kernel source and the tool chain (gcc, binutils, glibc,
gdb, and strace).
Anyone can download the kernel source, apply the IBM
patches, and go through the normal ‘make’ sequence. The
patches are being incorporated into the official source trees.
The same applies to gcc, glibc, etc.
Linux/390 is ASCII, not EBCDIC.
